Originally from Vancouver, Canada, bassist and composer Josh Cole co-founded the critically acclaimed October Trio with Dan Gaucher and Evan Arntzen in 2004. In the years following Josh lived in Vancouver where he participated in the jazz community performing and recording with Brad Turner, Ron Samworth, George Mcfetridge, and many others. Since moving to Toronto in 2010 Josh has worked with Sandro Perri, Luka Kuplowsky, Brodie West, Nick Fraser, Ryan Driver, Lina Allemano, John Oswald, Thom Gill, Robin Dann (Bernice), Allison Cameron, Ken Aldcroft, Colin Fisher, Prince Nifty, Peter Zummo, Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright, Anna Mcgarrigle, Devon Sproule, Michelle Willis, and Knower amongst others. In addition to performing, Josh taught digital composition at the Sarah Mclachlan Music Outreach in Vancouver from 2007-2010, and has been teaching privately since 2002.
Josh leads the chamber ensemble Josh Cole 4tet+ strings and Kind Mind as well as being a frequent collaborator with these bands/projects: the Brodie West Quintet, Sandro Perri, Luka Kulplowsky (and the Ryokan Blues Band), and Craig Dunsmuir’s Dun Dun Band.
